QR codes are back!
Like baggy jeans and crop tops, QR codes are back! What are they? Have they changed? Let us break it down for you…
What is a QR code?
Originally launched by Japanese company Denso Wave in 1994, the QR code (aka quick-response code) is a two-dimensional matrix barcode that allowed its users to focus on high-speed reading to facilitate keeping track of the types and numbers of automobile parts.
How do QR codes work?
Simply put, a QR code works the same way as a barcode at a supermarket. The solid squares and dots each represent certain bits of information from the link you’re sending your customers to.
QR codes are sooo 20 years ago
You’re right, while many businesses implemented them in the early days the reality was that the technology then was a little clunky. Users had to download a purpose built reader app to scan the QR code and access the information. Technology has taken leaps and bounds though and now days you can scan a code using the camera on your smart phone and open the information direct in your browser.
I get it but how can a QR code benefit my business?
Using QR codes within your branded collateral for your business is hugely beneficial, here is IDEAM’s top five reasons you should implement QR codes:
Versatile – whether you want your customers or prospective customers to see an overview of your products, make a booking, or have the direct link to purchase a specific product the QR code has got your back. Every QR code is unique in that they can link to wherever you require. The world is your oyster.
Streamlined user experience – customers can quickly and efficiently access information on a product or service that you’re looking to promote without having to speak to a staff member or ask for support.
Easy to repurpose - because QR codes can be downloaded in multiple formats when you’re creating them you can easily repurpose them regardless of how your business want to use them – on a business card today, poster tomorrow or part of your exhibition stand next week, QR codes can easily be scaled to the size needed.
Brand asset – gone are the days of a black and white QR code. Use a QR code as a brand asset for your business by customising the colour, look, or even incorporating a logo.
Insightful tracking – did you know you can track how many times your QR code is being scanned and the information is accessed? Having this insight is super helpful and can allow you to make calculated decisions around marketing material.
